The Paths Need Your Help

One of the greatest assets of the Woodhall, Faskine and Palacecraig Conservation Area is its network of paths, providing safe and accessible routes for walkers, families, dog owners and those enjoying our popular weekly Health Walks.
Over recent years, however, a number of these paths have become increasingly overgrown. As maintenance budgets have reduced, vegetation has encroached onto sections of the Core Path network and canal towpaths, making some routes more difficult to use.
While responsibility for maintaining these paths lies with the relevant public authorities, we recognise the importance of keeping them accessible for our community.
Thanks to the dedication of our volunteers, support from the Monkland Strimming Team, and the recent purchase of a new strimmer through grant funding, we have started clearing some of the worst affected sections. Although we cannot maintain the entire network ourselves, we hope our efforts will help keep key routes open until longer-term maintenance can be undertaken.
We will continue to work constructively with North Lanarkshire Council and Scottish Canals, highlighting areas that require attention and encouraging continued investment in these valuable community assets.
